What is VPS ?

VPS stands for Virtual Private Server. It is a computer system (server) that operates (fully functional) over the internet. VPS is a computer system that acts as if it is a system that resides in our home or in the office. The difference is that its presence is intangible (viewable as our PC/Laptop). Basically, an ideal VPS is a server-based PC (a sophisticated PC that has to be turned on all day long 24/7/365).

We can install a program, do some typing, browsing, or even create whatever we want to do to our desktop computers, as it is on a VPS.
VPS generally consists of 2 (two) types: a Linux-based VPS and a Windows-based VPS (runs on a Windows operating system). Currently, we are going to discuss and focus more about Windows-based VPS, especially on those that run on Windows Server 2003, Server 2008, and the latest Server 2012.

You can be connected to a VPS, from a distance (remotely), using a program from Microsoft, namely Remote Desktop Connection (or usually mentioned as RDP – Remote Desktop Program) and other programs, such as VNC, TeamViewer, etc. On Mac, you may as well use Microsoft RDP for Mac, which can be downloaded from the Microsoft website. There are also other free RDP-based programs such as 2X Client for Android and Apple (IOS -Apple Operating System) users.

VPS Windows is mostly well-known to serious Forex Trader, used professionally for installing and running the Forex Robot on Metatrader 4 (or known as Expert Advisor). To be remotely connected to a VPS, we need another set of computer system (or tablet, RDP installed) and an internet connection.

What Does VPS Stand and Use For?
Web Hosting One of the popular uses is to provide web hosting. Virtual Private Server is very appropriate for middle level and corporate website, where the application requires a specific configuration and can only be done by Superuser. This usage is also suitable for starting a web hosting business with a limited budget but a service with a quality.
Backup Server The need for server backups to ensure service is always running normally is very important. This server backup can include websites, emails, files, and databases. All these services are in separate physical and logical conditions thus minimizing damage or loss of data.
Storage server where we can store files and data either through ftp, or http.
Remote desktop server, where we can download and upload files remotely, run forex applications, bots / robots & automation, spinner.
Host server for VPN and Tunneling. Application Hosting With Virtual Private Server, it is possible to build custom mission critical software without costing too much. Outsource application development has also become a trend to save costs so that investment is much more efficient.
Development / Test Environments Virtual Private Servers also help to perform a series of efficient development testing, multiple operating systems and public IP addresses easily done, remote connections for reboot and interface replacement quite quickly, just as having 1 full rack With server testing.
Educational Outpost Virtual Private Server makes the event to experiment with UNIX Operating System with a variety of distributions at once. Make experimental processes more diverse and easier to compare them.

Advantages of Using VPS

Flexible - You can install software in VPS according to your wishes and needs You will have ROOT access, where with this access you can do anything to your VPS Resource warranty (CPU, RAM, and Space) You will not be expelled by hosting because it uses BOT or the like.

The Difference Between VPS and Desktop PC, basically based on hardware technology, reliable connection, availability, continuous working time. VPS use a high grade hardware for high load work that cannot handled by typical desktop pc, VPS hardware was designed to work continuosly 24/7/365, and great for handle high load job. VPS located at a Data Center, which is mean, the service is available for a long time work, uninteruptible power supply, uninteruptible internet connection, high speed internet connection, different from home use desktop pc, limited with power supply and internet connection.

The difference between a virtual desktop and a virtual server is the configuration, the software available and likelihood of reboots.
Virtual desktops were initially created to reduce problems with new Windows VPS configurations, to be used as a desktop. We found that many new subscribers did not know what a SQL server was, but since it's an available software package for servers they ordered it anyway - along with everything else possible. This caused problems with the desktop performance because many software packages that were not intended to be run on one server were running on a desktop. It also opened the VPS to security risks.
From this, virtual desktops were created and customized. The applications available to desktops are desktop apps - not database or web servers. The desktops are also configured with dual firewalls where the servers are initially only behind a shared firewall and must enable the software firewall. Since our services are popular with traders, desktops are never intentionally rebooted between Sunday afternoon - Friday afternoon (FOREX hours). Where a traditional server may be rebooted at any off-peak time, as needed.
The price points are exactly the same. The same configuration side by side would cost the same. Our desktops actually include slightly more CPU then a base server at the same price (this is by design). The servers are intended to be customized, and rarely is a server actually ordered with a stock configuration. The best part of virtualization is the ability to customize. You no longer need to order an entire server, only to use a few key resources. Instead, a subscriber can order exactly what they need, and pay only for those resources. Some need more RAM, others more CPU or traffic - or both! It depends on what the server is being used for.
Our desktops are the best configuration for desktop users, based on our experience, monitoring and interaction with them. A standard windows VPS is probably not enough and will likely provide random errors normally associated with low resources.

Benefits of Using Windows VPS for Forex Trading
Following are the benefits of using Windows VPS (compared to using personal computers / desktop computers / laptop) for Forex Trading purposes:
Affordable: compared to buying another personal computer for a specific use, especially with distinctive specifications (which will be required to run heavy tasks).
Stable: an outstanding stability of internet connection compared to other available connection which are normally used on personal computers and other non-specified computers, which is absolutely needed in a VPS device, since the VPS is located in a data center which seriously monitors its internet connection as well as being continuously observed.
Durable: Computers which are running non-stop 24/7/365 continuously, will pose a very big threat if they are not equipped with appropriate server-level hardware. Especially and specifically on the type of power supply and other hardware of the particular computer, which must have been really tested and specified for non-stop duties. A VPS is well-known and being known of its durability since it only utilizes server-level hardware and internet connection. Usually, a VPS is powered by an Intel XEON processor, which is only being used in server-class computers.
Performance: using a computer for a specific use or task, compared to the one that is also being used for other programs, such as typing, picture editing, browsing and others, would significantly differentiate the performance of this single computer (VPS) in executing separate tasks. The most frequent situation which would be encountered by a user on a routine and fully loaded computer is the hang or freeze condition. Surely, a VPS, which is being used specifically (separately), will be more reliable in terms of its performance, and being supported by the simplicity of the VPS reinstall / re-formatting procedure (if disaster occurs), would definitely and effectively increase the VPS’ usage (comparison: time needed for reinstall / re-formatting a PC is 3 - 4 hours, as in VPS is only 10 – 15 minutes).
Reliability: on a VPS, we know that a server is being maintained and monitored 24/7/365, thus it will provide more reliable factors, a significantly increase in performance, resulting to reliability.
Speed (and accuracy): Many brokers have their servers overseas, especially in Europe (which is popular today). Particularly for traders, this means that we must have a VPS with the closest location to a designated broker''s server, or usually being called as: a VPS with the least latency to the broker. In result: for sure, the accuracy of order execution and lagged minimizing are more accountable, since there’s the possibility to execute and to get the best price compared to other traders who actually are doing the same order execution with us at the same time.

Traders benefit from the same technology only normally found in major data centers. Traders use a Remote Desktop client to easily access the virtual windows environment. Programs run on the hosted server – inside the virtual environment. This allows the trader to close the remote desktop client and even shut down their computer, while leaving applications running normally inside the virtual environment.

VPS’s also benefit from bandwidth speeds unparalleled on most home machines, while requiring minimal Internet bandwidth to support the desktop connection. Trading applications benefit from the extremely high speeds and low latency connectivity of a hosted server.
One of the key factors is the Virtual Desktop keeps running, even if you lose your Internet connection or say your laptop runs out of battery.
The Internet speed to your virtual desktop remains steadfast, regardless of your own connection speed or connectivity.Web Hosting One of the popular uses is to provide web hosting. Virtual Private Server is very appropriate for middle level and corporate website, where the application requires a specific configuration and can only be done by Superuser. This usage is also suitable for starting a web hosting business with a limited budget but a service with a quality.
